What a cute little bird! This is a Yellow Warbler. Sint Eustatius National Parks Foundation (STENAPA) caught it during a bird ID and bird monitoring workshop with ecologist dr. Adrian del Nevo. With this knowledge STENAPA can start up bird monitoring twice a year. Birds are a good indicator of what's going on in nature. Thanks to the Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance (DCNA) STENAPA was able to bring Del Nevo to Sint Eustatius/Caribbean Netherlands.

Quill Crater trail closed until further notice

Oranjestad - For safety reasons Sint Eustatius National Parks Foundation (STENAPA) has closed the Crater trail on the inner slope of the Quill. Due to erosion and the risk of falling boulders at three different locations, persons should not go further inside once they have reached the rim.

Staff and volunteers will start the renovations as soon as possible as the work is expected to take several weeks. The main Quill trail on the outer slope is open for hikers and is safe.

Additionally, STENAPA is working hard to bring the National Parks on land to their former glory after hurricane Irma and Maria hit the island. Due to the storm many trails were inaccessible because of fallen trees and branches. Thanks to donations from the Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance, WWF Netherlands and the Prince Bernhard Fund (PBCCG), we were able to purchase chainsaws and hire extra capacity.

The following trails are also reopened: Main Quill trail, Panorama Point, Mazinga, Around the Mountain South (until viewpoint), Birdtrail. And in the Northern Hills: Venus Bay, Boven, Jenkins, Gilboa Ridge One.

If you want to enter the National Parks, please purchase a new trail tag 2018 (yellow) at the Visitor Center on the bay or the hotels and dive shops. A tag is valid for the whole calendar year and costs only $10. For Statians the trail tags are free. Statians are though advised to inform family or friends from overseas, who come to the island, to buy a tag. The income from the tags goes directly to the maintenance of the parks.
