Statia Tourism brings WOW!Nature Film to St.Eustatius Schools ahead of 2027 cinema release

ORANJESTAD, ST. EUSTATIUS (24 Sept 2026) –Primary school pupils across St Eustatius were treated to an exclusive preview screening of WOW!, the upcoming nature documentary charting the ecosystems of the six Dutch Caribbean islands, ahead of the film's cinema release in September 2027.

The special screening was organised through a collaborative effort between Statia Tourism and Nathalie Rietman, project manager of WOW!, and brought together pupils from all four of the island's primary schools for a first look at footage capturing St Eustatius's own landscapes and marine life. The St Eustatius Sports Facilities Foundation supplied the sports hall and internet connection for the event, and the Statia Tourism team coordinated the logistics to make sure the screening ran smoothly for the students.

"For the WOW-team it's very important to inspire the younger generation," said Rietman. "We are therefore very grateful that the schoolchildren in Statia could enjoy a special screening of the WOW documentary showcasing their island, presented in collaboration with the Statia Tourism Office."

Maya Pandt, director of tourism at St Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation, said the screening was a chance to put the island's own children at the centre of a story that is usually told to outsiders.

"Our young people grow up surrounded by this nature, but they don't always get the opportunity to see it reflected back at them on screen," said Pandt. "Watching their own island appear in a film of this scale gives them a real sense of pride, and it's exactly the kind of engagement we want to build on as we look ahead to the wider release."

WOW! documents the beauty, ecosystems and fragility of nature in and around Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, Saba, Statia and St Maarten, taking audiences from tropical rainforest and active volcanoes to coral reefs, flamingo colonies and dolphin pods. The project extends well beyond the cinema release: alongside the feature film and six accompanying television documentaries, WOW! runs education and awareness programmes, local talent development, podcasts, storytelling initiatives and a scientific database, with the aim of turning public wonder into lasting awareness and protection of the islands' natural environment.
